Kilimanjaro Initiative is managed by youth from Kibera, Kenya, who graduated from our leadership program. Having grown up in the largest slum in Kenya, our team understands the social issues faced by youth. They work with the community to identify solutions, and puts projects into action using local resources.
Kilimanjaro Initiative was founded by Tim Challen after he was shot during an armed robbery in Nairobi, Kenya. After testifying in court, in Kibera, he decided to climb Mt Kilimanjaro as a way to raise awareness on social issues that affect youth. KI organizes youth leadership camps and climbs for the benefit of communities.
To reach out to the youth in Kenya and globally through sports inter alia, thus instigating behavioral reform and transforming them into agents of positive change, enabling them to positively contribute towards sustainable community development and offering them opportunities for self-development.
